My Story
Hello! My name is Vanessa Knott and I'm an artist & illustrator based in East Sussex, UK. I have created work in a number of specialist fields, but since 2017 I have specialised in ink drawing and calligraphy. I love using pens and brushes to create a variety of artworks, from full-colour ink illustrations to line art pieces in a comic style.

I find inspiration in everything I experience, from the video game music soundtracks that fuel vigorous linework, to a natural history museum visit that might spark an idea for a new creature concept. The line art that I have created in recent years is influenced by a range of manga and graphic novel illustrators, from Junji Ito to Kevin O'Neill. I have a fascination with line and mark making through traditional processes, and I am always interested in exploring both careful line work, as well as playful splatters and different shading techniques.

I started exhibiting and trading at comic conventions in 2017. I started at Wyntercon 4, and received such a warm welcome. It was an opportunity to meet other creatives, network and form connections with those who share a passion for pop culture, sci-fi and all fantasy genres. In previous years, I exhibited in group shows, most notably at The Blyth Gallery and Bargehouse in London.

I fulfilled a variety of voluntary roles at Towner art gallery in Eastbourne. I was a Gallery Invigilator and Generate Crew Volunteer, where I supported all young participants in pursuing their creative interests. I was also fortunate to have worked alongside Japanese artist Chiharu Shiota in her creation of Other Side at Towner back in 2013. I also successfully exhibited my artwork at the East Sussex Open in that same year.

As an Activities Coordinator at Inglewood Nursing Home (2016-1019), I planned and delivered a variety of events and activities throughout the home. Much consideration went into meeting the individual needs of all residents, and I thoroughly enjoyed bringing my creative flair to the role. One of many highlights was the creation of a Eastern style dragon for Chinese New Year. The wall display stayed up for a long time after the celebrations, as all the residents were proud of their artistic achievements.

Recently, I have become an Artist Facilitator at De La Warr Pavilion, Bexhill-on-Sea, and I am looking forward to assisting their Learning & Participation Department in delivering artist-led workshops.
